If you’ve exhausted all other options, moving can be a smart way to improve your job prospects – but be sure to check where people are hiring, and in what industries, before you pack your bags and go.
San Diego, for example, might seem promising. It has a mild year-round climate, a natural deep-water harbor, major league sports teams and extensive beaches, among other things – but it doesn’t have many job openings. That’s right; life is anything but a beach for job seekers in this Southern California metropolis.
In fact, San Diego is one of the toughest cities in the U.S. for finding employment right now, according to new data from the online job search engine Indeed.com. It had only four listings for jobs paying $50,000 and up, per 1,000 residents, during the third quarter of 2013.
